Clinical Psychologists are a welcome addition to our healthcare team at St Lucia Medical. Our Psychologist will be available for appointments Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
Annette joined the team at St Lucia Medical practice in January2012. She is available to treat adults with a wide variety of presenting problems. No referral is necessary if you wish to pay privately. You may be able to claim a rebate using your private health insurance (check with your provider for details). However, if you wish to claim a rebate from Medicare, a Mental Health Care Plan and referral from your GP, Psychiatrist or other Medical Specialist is necessary.
Annette is an experienced therapist who completed the Clinical Psychology PhD Program at the University of Queensland, Brisbane. Prior to undertaking training in psychology, Annette worked as a registered nurse. She has full registration with the Psychologists Board of Australia, and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. She is recognised by Medicare as a provider of specialist clinical psychology services.
As a clinical psychologist, Annette has worked and trained in hospital, university and private settings, primarily using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness, and supportive psychotherapy. She has experience working with a broad range of problems including all forms of anxiety, such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Social Phobia, Simple Phobia, exam and work anxiety, Bipolar disorders, depression and postnatal depression, grief and trauma including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), stress related problems, Adjustment Disorder, difficulties with organisation and time management, attention deficit disorders, communication and interpersonal difficulties, self-harm, and parenting problems.
Annette has a particular interest in Clinical Health Psychology and is passionate about assisting people to optimise their health and wellbeing. Health psychology focuses on optimising strengths and reducing problems associated with poor heath, disease or injury. These problems may include emotional reactions such as anger, anxiety and depression, non-adherence to medical regimes, substance use, chronic pain, eating problems, weight management, physical inactivity, and poor sleep.
Unfortunately, Annette is unable to provide a service to individuals involved in legal disputes, Workcover claims or those wishing to access a bulk billing service. Full payment is required at the time of consultation. St Lucia Medical has Medicare EasyClaim which allows rebates to be lodged at the time of payment. This means upon full payment, your rebate can be directed straight back into your account.
Consultation fees – please see reception
Cancellation fees – A non attendance fee of $100 may be charged for failure to attend a scheduled appointment, or failure to give 24 hours notice of cancellation.
With a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare rebate may apply
Please note: you can obtain 6 rebated sessions on your first medical referral and another 4 rebated sessions on your second referral (called a ‘review’). Under normal circumstances you can be rebated up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
